Tympanomastoidectomy is a combination of two surgical procedures done at the same time - tympanoplasty (surgery to repair a defect in the tympanic membrane with the placement of a graft) and mastoidectomy (surgery to remove diseased mastoid air cells). Tympanomastoidectomy is done to treat frequent ear infections that have damaged the eardrum and tissue in and near the ear.
